PRESS RELEASE: incentaHEALTH’s Virtual Diabetes Prevention Program Earns CDC Preliminary Recognition

Patented platform uses visual progress tracking to reward members for improving their nutrition and exercise and reducing their risk for type 2 diabetes

DENVER, November 18, 2019 Digital health company, incentaHEALTH, announced today that they have earned Preliminary Recognition status from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for their virtual diabetes prevention program called #PreventDiabetes. This designation is awarded to organizations that are delivering quality, evidence-based programs that meet the required CDC standards, while advancing toward CDC Full Recognition.

Building upon its award-winning behavior change platform, incentaHEALTH uses behavioral economics to encourage individuals to adopt new habits around healthy eating and active living. The patented ‘Healthy Selfie’ measures members’ progress with photos and validated weight measurements. Meaningful change is recognized with a reward card every 90 days for achieving at least a 5 percent weight reduction.

“By taking advantage of the powerful incentaHEALTH app, members can access meal ideas from Registered Dietitians, on-demand video workouts led by Certified Personal Trainers, guided meditations, and connect with their Lifestyle Coach, all in the palm of their hand,” said Todd McGuire, Chief Technology Officer at incentaHEALTH.

“Our virtual program makes it easy for the millions of Americans at risk for developing type 2 diabetes to access the resources they need to reduce their risk in a flexible way that works with their schedule. Every member receives a Bluetooth Smart Scale to easily track their body weight and body fat wirelessly. And since many of our members report they struggle getting to a gym, we include a free resistance band to use while they follow our video workouts at home.”

Research published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine found that the incentaHEALTH platform attracts high risk individuals with an average starting BMI of 33. Those individuals also achieve long term BMI improvements, with a third of those weighing in 2 or more times achieving at least a 5 percent weight improvement and engaging in the program for an average of 1.7 years. Studies have shown that a  5 percent weight loss can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58 percent.

“Our mission at incentaHEALTH is to reward 100 million people for healthy eating and active living to reverse health issues such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. The introduction of our new #PreventDiabetes program combined with our wireless HEALTHspot Smart Scale allows us to help individuals, employers, and health systems create lasting behavior change,” said Jack Rule, CEO of incentaHEALTH.
