incentaHEALTH Announces Beta Test of Mobile Wellness Kiosk
Denver, Colo., January, 15 2009 – incentaHEALTH has begun beta testing a new portable version of its HEALTHspot kiosk.
The new kiosk, called HEALTHspot Mobile, is a suitcase-sized device for performing automated, private wellness screenings at the workplace. Unlike incentaHEALTH’s permanent kiosk, the HEALTHspot Mobile is designed to travel to remote worksites on a periodic basis to perform screenings. After being set up at a worksite, the HEALTHspot kiosk confidentially collects and transmits the BMI (Body Mass Index) data to the incentaHEALTH data center via an encrypted Internet connection.
The HEALTHspot Mobile is designed to be placed on a standard height desk or table in a private location. The case is opened up to reveal all of the same components found in incentaHEALTH’s permanent kiosk: computer-controlled scale, digital camera, wireless network, and LCD control screen to direct the participant through the weigh in. All of the components are integrated to so that the user just needs to place the scale on the floor and plug in the power cord. The HEALTHspot Mobile then automatically starts up and is ready to perform screenings. Once the screenings are complete, the case is packed back up and shipped to the next worksite.
Every three months, participants enter the private measurement room to automatically record their weight and photo by logging into the kiosk and stepping on the scale. After five seconds, the participant’s current weight and photo appear on the HEALTHspot display for review. Once confirmed by the participant, the information is encrypted and transmitted to the incentaHEALTH data center for secure archival. The results are only accessible by the participating employee. The employer never sees individual participant results. This private weigh-in takes approximately 45 seconds. The HEALTHspot is available for participant use 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
By participating in the incentaHEALTH wellness program, participants receive daily email instruction on proper nutrition and exercise. Every 90 days, participating employees return to the HEALTHspot kiosk to track their performance. They receive a cash incentive from incentaHEALTH based on the percentage improvement in their weight (BMI). Participants can earn incentives for the entire duration of the year-long program if they maintain their success at each screening. This long-term incentive approach leads to lasting behavior change as employees are rewarded for incorporating new habits around nutrition and physical activity into their daily lives.
