Program Promises Cash, Prizes If You Lose Weight

Weigh And Win Program Created By Kaiser Permanente

DENVER -- Kaiser Permanente is offering cash and prizes, if you lose weight.

It's called Weigh and Win. The program is available for free to all Coloradans ages 18 and older. You don't have to be a Kaiser Permanente member to join.

Participants with a BMI of 25 or greater at the initial weigh in are eligible to earn reward checks for losing weight per the established incentive scale. Those with a BMI of less than 25 are eligible for prizes by accruing HEALTHpoints through program participation.

Lose 5 percent of your body weight in a quarter, get $15. Lose 10 percent, get $30.

Participants are sent a daily email with exercise and nutritional advice. They can also sign up to get a daily motivational text message. More than 4,000 people have already signed up.

"We know that being overweight or obese has serious health consequences. It not only increases the risk for chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease, but there’s also a tremendous cost to our communities," said Jandel Allen-Davis, MD, Kaiser Permanente vice president of government and external relations. "Kaiser Permanente is committed to improving the health of all Coloradans and this program builds upon our extensive work to increase healthy eating and physical activity."

Participants can sign up online, but they have to go to a kiosk quarterly for photographed weigh-ins.

Kiosks are currently located in Denver, Lakewood, Centennial, Commerce City, Lafayette, Firestone and Colorado Springs. To find a kiosk near you, visit the Weigh and Win website.
