incentaHEALTH: One Year Later:
One year ago, more than 600 Lansing associates registered for the incentaHEALTH program and began receiving weekly e-mails consisting of fitness schedules, meal plans and other healthy tips. Since then, those associates have lost more than a combined 4,000 pounds and reduced their body mass indexes (BMIs) by more than 6 percent on average. Jackson recently launched the program in Denver and has had more than 100 associates sign up.

“If you think you won’t succeed, just try it. It’s easy!” said Senior Payroll Specialist Linda Cramer.

The incentaHEALTH program is designed to be an easy, fun way to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Healthy

 
eating focuses on portion control, eating five or six small meals each day and making sure each meal is balanced with protein, carbohydrates and vegetables. The fitness portion focuses on cardio workouts and strength training, with three levels of fitness. The fitness routines are easy to follow whether the participant is a beginner or a lifelong athlete and would like to exercise at home or the gym.

Cramer was originally hesitant to join the program when a friend suggested it, but now tells anyone who will listen how great it is. She had not been thinking about losing weight or been on a diet before she started the program. However, Cramer was happy when the pounds quickly started dropping off.

“I still remember the first time I went down to the Dining Center and someone asked me if I had lost weight. I was excited about it all day,” said Cramer who still looks at her “before” picture quite often as motivation.

She insists the secret to her success is going for a walk every day at lunch and using portion control when she eats. Cramer notes it is important to take small steps and to keep building on the lessons learned through incentaHEALTH. Her favorite part of the program is the daily e-mails because seeing an inspirational quote and new recipes each day reminds her to keep on track.

In addition to receiving daily e-mails, participants are encouraged to visit the HEALTHspot kiosk at the office. There, they are able to weigh in and calculate their body mass index at least every 13 weeks or as often as they like. In Denver, associates are also able to have their blood pressure measured. Forty-five percent of the Lansing associates who registered for the program one year ago are still participating in regular weigh-ins, which is above average for most companies using the program.

“We love that the incentaHEALTH program has proven to be an effective and easy way to help associates lose weight,” said Human Resources SVP Steve Hrapkiewicz. “But, it’s not just about the weight. This program shows associates how to live a healthier lifestyle, gaining energy and confidence along the way.”
