Kaiser Permanente Weigh and Win™ Reaches 100,000 Enrollments

DENVER Kaiser Permanente Weigh and Win™, Colorado’s free community wellness program, has been helping — and incenting — participants to achieve a healthy weight since 2011. The program has now reached a new milestone, enrolling 100,000 Coloradans across the state.

Kaiser Permanente Weigh and Win, a technology-based wellness program, has expanded throughout Colora
do reaching many impressive milestones along the way, including:

  • Hosting more than 125 community accessible weigh-in locations.
  • Delivering 1.2 million fitness and nutrition plans to participants each month.
  • Disbursing more than $640,000 in cash rewards for weight loss.

“When we launched this program in 2011, we wanted to create an easy and approachable way for the Colorado community to interact with their health goals,” said Jandel Allen-Davis, MD, Kaiser Permanente Colorado vice president of government, external relations and research. “We had no idea it would reach this many people in more than 125 locations across the state. We’re proud of this program and all the Coloradans who signed up and took control of their health.”

The weigh-in kiosk creates a playful photo booth experience at the scale by taking a full-body photo of the participant, in addition to a validated weight measurement. The kiosk changes the medical tone of weight loss to create a fun, encouraging environment while also providing personal motivation.

“This program made it easy to track my progress. It is very encouraging to be able to compare the before and after pictures,” said Bruce Reagan, a Kaiser Permanente Weigh and Win participant from Denver. “Thinking about how hard it was for me to get to this point is a strong motivator against falling back into old habits.”

Setting it apart from other weight loss programs, Kaiser Permanente Weigh and Win provides long-term results, a constant challenge for millions of Americans. A recent study found that 71 percent of Kaiser Permanente Weigh and Win participants have

lost weight with an average program engagement length of 1.7 years.

“Research has shown the impact this program is having on people’s health. We are using that momentum to impact new populations,” said Lia Kleppe, IncentaHEALTH’s Kaiser Permanente Weigh and Win program manager. “For example, Kaiser Permanente’s Safety Net Clinic Project is adding new kiosk locations to reach and engage underserved populations and provide additional patient management options to care providers in these important clinic settings.”

New participants can join for free at WeighandWin.com or at any of the 125 kiosk locations in Colorado. Kaiser Permanente Weigh and Win is available for free to all Colorado residents 18 and older.
